Some Praise for Gardner's Guide to Audio Post-production

Mark's book is a great primer for any aspiring filmmaker who wants to improve the quality of their soundtrack. It is filled with good, basic advice about not only the how, but also the why. It walks you through the full range of post-production sound from the beginning of the pre-production stage to the final release. Anyone interested in creating high quality and creative soundtracks for their movie or video should definitely give it a read.

As an independent filmmaker with 4 credits to my name, I am the first to admit that it wasn’t until my 3rd film that the issue of sound and its importance in helping to create a quality picture began to resonate. Luckily, I had a good teacher. Considering that teacher cost me more than this book, I wish this book would have been available years ago!

This book is concise yet thorough in its approach to teach new filmmakers both the importance of sound in a film and the ease in which good sound can be achieved.  Mark meticulously guides us through all stages of post-production from storyboarding the sound to final mix, carefully using language that is lucid and engaging...he even offers a glossary for those pesky ‘tech’ terms that are just too hard to get around!
